Dear fellow Educators,
You'll never know how strong you are until being strong is your only option.
If you've been following my page then you have a glimpse of what I'm talking
about.
If you are new to my page, you are very welcome. Sit back and enjoy my Journeys
and Stories.
I just want you to know that you are an exceptional professional in whatever you do in class. I know you definitely understand that you probably got hired by impressing someone with your resume, Right, but did you know that there is something very special in you that can never be showcased through your resume? Well. Let me ask a question here. How do you showcase your passions and talents, the energy you bring into class on a daily basis? How do you prove your dedication and commitment to service? How do you explain your patience, perseverance and the love you show your students on a daily routine?
I am sure you now understand what I am talking about. When we are in the classroom, we are not only teachers but mentors, role models, problem solvers, game changers, nurses, care givers, comforters, name it. These are important qualities we bring with us to school every day. Trust me, it’s quite hard to quantify these values but our students are the ones who can prove
this. You probably have more than I have mentioned on your list.
Embracing the power of calmness can be a great tool in your journey as an educator. Knowing very well that teaching comes with a lot of challenges is vital in this journey. You need to learn how to overcome, fear, criticism, all manner of challenges that come your way. Choosing the right people to trust, colleagues whom you can lean on when things aren't working out right. All these need grit and energy.
Here are ten important tips I've learned along my journey as an educator for the past two and a half decades that can help you win.
1. The decisions you make do not need approval from other people. Most people are not happy when you succeed.
2. Make your plans your own ticket to success and not for the whole village.
3. When something doesn't feel alright, think twice about it before embarking on the journey.
4. Not all your colleagues will celebrate your wins. Choose wisely.
5. Your problems are yours alone. Everyone has their own puzzle piece of problem to solve.
6. Sharing your challenges with the wrong people causes more challenges than
you'll think. Share them with people you trust instead.
7. Nature is an amazing healer. When you feel depleted, just go out and look at nature. It's therapeutic.
8. Setting clear boundaries and following through is vital in a self-healing journey.
9. Not all your plans and goals come out straight immediately. You need to be patient and trust the process.
10. Our bodies are amazing healing engines. When your body tells you to stop, please stop and breathe. You can never accomplish what’s on your plate instantly. Burn out is real and can affect your health.
Cheers!
